WNLA Audio Archive Readme
This Archive
This is our archive of messages preached at Whatcom New Life Assembly in Ferndale, Washington, USA. Please feel free to download and distribute any message you find here. Not all services are found here. Some are missing because we didn’t get the message recorded and some because of copyrighted materials presented by guests. The recording quality varies at times though it is generally good. We do edit out our song services in order to avoid copyright infringements if we’ve missed something we apologize.
RSS – Podcast
The WNLA Podcast is a way of having your computer automatically downloading new audio when it comes available on this site. There are a number of ways to do this. You may download to your own computer using the iPodder or some other similar program. You may also track our Podcast online via the WNLA page on Odeo or the WNLA page on PodNova. You can check those sites for more information on their method. If you do use a portable MP3 player, iPod or some other device your audio downloads can be synced so you can ”take it with you” when you go.
Finding Stuff
Organization is not the strong point of this Archive, we are shooting more for automation. All sermon file names indicate where and when the files recorded. The files in the document archive have descriptive names that should help you find what you’re looking for. There may occasionally be additional directories in the document archive which should be named clearly enough to aid your search.Audio File Format
Our Audio Archive includes MP3, OGG-Vorbis, and OGG-Speex formats.
• MP3
Almost any computer media player comes ready to play the MP3 format files. If you’re a beginner try the MP3 Archive.
• OGG (Vorbis or Speex)
The OGG format is what’s called a wrapper format for compressed media; in other words it’s a file that can contain a specific variety of other distinct formats. These OGG files are compressed and decoded with open-source software from xiph.org. See their website for more information. There are some media players which come ready to play the OGG formats. If your media player doesn’t currently support the OGG formats, check the vorbis setup page for direction to software appropriate for your system. If you are using Windows Media Player it is easily enabled by downloading the “DirectShow Filters” which the vorbis setup page will direct you to. There are two differnt formats of OGG files in this archive. Our OGG-Vorbis files are larger and of comparable if not better audio quality to our MP3 files. Our OGG-Speex files are significantly smaller and of lower audio quality, like listening to a distant shortwave broadcast. In addition OGG-Speex files are designed to compress speech not music, so if there is music in the recording the quality is even further degraded. However, if you’re on a dial-up or low bandwidth connection, the OGG-Speex file size makes them quite accessible.
MetaData
Meta data is extra text embedded in the file that is often used in your media player for artist and title information. Some of our files have this and some don’t. We’re working on it. Maybe someday we’ll get more creative and organize by the metadata tags. Someday does come occasionally, we are much more complex now than we were when we began and hope to grow progressively.
The WNLA Archive exists for the sole purpose of making our message recordings and documents available for people who would like to download and or listen to them. Any other use of this site is strictly prohibited.
