Power To Do The Job

June 14th, 2010

I have no doubt that someone who doesn’t believe in God would perceive our faith as loony. Unfortunate for them because they miss out on the awesome blessing of not only believing in God, but living interactively with God who loves us and empowers us to accomplish His work.  May 23rd was Pentecost Sunday.  It is a Jewish feast day on which we know the Holy Spirit, empowers his people to extend God’s Kingdom to the ends of the earth.

The story is exciting, but the end result is amazing. In our modern era the Holy Spirit is still at work just as powerfully as on that day.  Join us and listen to this message Power To Do The Job.

May 23rd was also a very good day where we baptized three individuals and celebrated a  baby dedication.  Now we don’t baptize babies but like Mary and Joseph did we present our babies to God.  We baptize people, children or adults, who have accepted God’s authority in their lives and are ready to make a public declaration of that fact.  So if you like you can also listen to our baby dedication (May 23, 2010) and our baptism service (May 23, 2010) we didn’t include these in the podcast but have included the links here above.

Praying Forgiveness – Series on Prayer

June 8th, 2010

When Jesus gives us a model for prayer, which we often call “the Lords Prayer”, he makes a very clear statement that one of our greatest goals in prayer is forgiveness.  We don’t often think about prayer as a tool for helping us forgive others.  Yet Jesus tells us that if we don’t forgive, God won’t listen to us.  The good thing for us is that God wants to help us forgive.  He wants to set us free from bitterness and unforgiveness.  Join us and listen to our message Praying Forgiveness and see if God will help you gain freedom in your life.

ITunes Podcast Update

June 6th, 2010

When you don’t pay attentions things can really fall apart.  We recently noticed our ITunes feed wasn’t working and probably had not worked for about a year and half.  Well, it’s fixed now and though there were not many posts in 2009, we’re almost caught up for the whole of 2010.  In the process only the newest material made it to ITunes so you may have missed out on a few things along the way.  To compensate we’re adding a link to our Series on Revelation.  Though it may not go directly to your ITunes account, you can track it down with the link.

Extending In Prayer – Prayer Series

May 27th, 2010

When we’re learning to make things we often use patterns to help us accomplish our project.  In my wife’s kindergarten classes she uses pattern fonts to make worksheets for children to practice their letters.  What are pattern fonts?  They are fonts where the letters are make up of dotted lines; some include directional arrows.  The children trace the dotted lines as a way of learning the pattern for writing.  Jesus gives us a pattern prayer, which we often call The Lords Prayer, as if it was the only thing he ever prayed.

One Hand Prayer Guide

One Hand Prayer Guide

When we become believers we learn to pray.  Those children learning to write will not win a Pulitzer prize for their Kindergarten writing but teacher Chelly will tell them how great they are.  Their parents will show samples of those early writings to grandparents and neighbors and cherish them.   Will God who loves us so much and who celebrates our new relationship with him, some how see our early attempts at communication with any less value?  God loves our simple and increasing prayers just the same.

Our desire to pray well should have more to do with content rather than with the words we use.  We don’t need to be flowery.  Jesus tells us not to babble on. When we’re new believers we often limit our prayer to the things we see in our own lives.  God’s word tells us to pray for all kinds of things.  So in this message we will look at a pattern that can help us develop our capacity and experience of prayer.  It’s simply based on a hand.  It’s not the only way to pray, nor does it complete everything God might want us to pray for.  Hopefully if you follow this pattern it will enable you go extend your prayer time.  It will help you to pray for things that are important.  It will help you get your mind off you and your troubles and onto the bigger picture of the kingdom of God.  Hopefully, it will open you to accomplishing greater things in prayer.

You can download the picture of the pattern on this page and if you’d like to follow on, you can join us and listen to our message Extending In Prayer.

Praying For What You Want – Series on Prayer

May 24th, 2010

In our culture the concept of prayer is to get what we want from our sugar daddy God.  We need something so we pray.  We want something so we pray.  We know we can’t attain something on our own so we pray.  In the past several weeks we have talked about other aspects of prayer.  We’ve considered elements of prayer that need to have priority in order to get our minds and hearts in tune with God.  Now finally we dealing with praying for what we want.   When it comes down to it, the best way to pray for what we want is to want what God wants.  Come listen to our message Praying For What You Want.

Peace and Power, Jesus Gift to His People

May 22nd, 2010

This follow up to the Easter message looks at the fearful state the disciples found themselves in.  Jesus again is not offended by their unbelief, but extends his peace to them and in so doing to us as well.  He opens us to fulfill his will and purpose for our lives.  He gives us his Holy Spirit, the very power and presence of God by which he accomplished his ministry here on earth.  Jesus not only turns his job over to us, but he enables and empowers us to accomplish it by his Holy Spirit.  Because of this we need to be afraid.  We just need to step out and fulfill God’s purpose for our lives.  Are you ready?  Come listen with us to our message, Peace and Power, Jesus Gift to His People.

Hard to Believe – Easter

May 22nd, 2010

There are so many things in the Bible that are hard to believe.  They are outside of our experience and beyond our mental perception of the relm of possibility.  The idea that Jesus was alive must have been met with incredulity by those who first heard it, at least until they saw for themselves.  One might think, because of the bible’s exhortation to have faith, that God is offended by our doubts rooted in the limitation of our perspective.   Yet God fully understands our limitations.  In the Easter story, it is interesting to note that Jesus is in no way offended by that limitation.  Instead, he deals with it directly.  He shows them what they need to see in order to understand what is possible with God.  Then without skipping a beat, having broadened their perspective, he moves on to call them to something that is well outside the bounds of their understanding of possibility.  Because they now believe in His impossible resurrection, they put their trust in Jesus ability to fulfill his calling in their lives.  Do you have doubts?  Wether you do or not come listen to the message, Hard to Believe from Easter 2010
